Provided to YouTube by Entertainment One Distribution US Septet in E-Flat Major, Op. 20 Vienna Octet Beethoven: Septet, Op. 20 Quintet for Piano & Octet in E-flat major by Ludwig van Beethoven, Op. 103, is a work for two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, and two horns. Beethoven wrote the work in 1792 in Bonn before he established himself in Vienna. He reworked and expanded the Octet in 1795 as his first String Quintet, Op. The Octet was not published until 1834 by Artaria, thus explaining the high opus number despite its date of composition. In both works I prefer the Berlin Philharmonic Ensemble-the 1977 Schubert Octet on Philips and the 1972 Beethoven Septet also on Philips. Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2010. Format: Audio CDVerified Purchase. Lovely balance, intonation, tempi and interpretation. Used for preparation of a live performance of the piece.
