Review Summary: The Pineapple Thief step into the wilderness, and while the resulting album is not as adventurous as it could be, it is nonetheless a captivating journey. The aptly titled Your Wilderness sees The Pineapple Thief in a period of rediscovery. Recent predecessors have paralleled the paths of contemporaries Porcupine Tree and Anathema: lessening the progressive rock influences in favor of more electronic and alternative music styles. This has made for more straightforward outcomes, but now finally given way to more adventurous songwriting, due mainly to the addition of a new band m. Phobism
anyone realized some weird clipping on sections of songs? I noticed this in digital formats (tried spotify, cd, youtube). For example on the verse of Tear You Up, there's some weird poping on the right channel during the guitar arpeggios. Same happens on No Man's Land near the half-end of the song at 2:24 and on (during the bass note that lasts about 1 second). What the hell?
Dexter_prog anyone realized some weird clipping on sections of songs? I noticed this in digital formats (tried spotify, cd, youtube). Same happens on No Man's Land near the half-end of the song at 2:24 and on (during the bass note that lasts about 1 second). What the hell? Hello Dexter! What surprises you? Despite the dynamic range measurments in the "Dynamic Range Database", the album has rather mediocre dynamics. Do not be impressed with the DR10 for this CD! In this case, this does not reflect the actual dynamics of the album at all. In fact, it’s even worse. Since most of the songs have DR9, due to the fact that the songs have growing elements, and a very loud, off-scale ending. For example, the track “No Man's Land” is growing, and then a short but bright culmination of drums. If you cut this moment separately, and measure the dynamic range - you will see the indicator DR6 (believe me, I checked). While the whole track DR9. I can say the same thing about the ending on "The Final Things on My Mind" - there is also DR6 at the peak moment. That is why most of the tracks sound pretty compressed. Actually, I won’t say anything about clipping, but the fact that there is an aggressive limiter is 100%. However, not everything is so bad. The WEB version of this album in 24-bit / 48kHz and the DVD-Audio version in 24-bit / 96kHz (actually the same 48kHz files) - have a slightly different mastering. Some compositions have better dynamics, and some even worse. For example: “Tear You Up” and “Take Your Shot” in comparison with CD do not have cut peaks, the sound is noticeably better. The tracks "In Exile" and "No Man's Land" are very slightly better, but still suffer from a limiter. The rest of the compositions have better dynamics on CD. But only in comparison. Unfortunately, vinyl contains the same mastering, and cannot please with a better sound.P. S. — If you want to get the best option available, you will have to “mix” the 16-bit / 44.1kHz version (it doesn’t matter, from WEB, or from CD) and the 24-bit / 48kHz version in the following order: tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 = from the 24-bit versions, and tracks 6, 7, 8 = from 16-bit. Hope this helps you a little.
