The Who's 'Who' is classic-rock comfort food. Rick Guest. The first Who album in 13 years opens with a perfectly cynical Pete Townshend lyric: I dont careI know youre gonna hate this song. But its kind of hard to hate something that feels so familiar. The Who have only sparingly released new music since the death of drummer Keith Moon in 1978 - Who is only their fourth album since then - but it seems like biding their time has worked in their favor. Who's Who is a studio album by American jazz guitarist John Scofield. It features two different bands, one acoustic and one electric. The acoustic group, featuring Scofield's then-employer Dave Liebman on saxophones, Eddie Gómez on bass, and Billy Hart on drums, recorded The Beatles and How the West Was Won. The electric group, featuring future Kenny Kirkland on keyboards, Anthony Jackson on electric bass, Steve Jordan on drums, and Sammy Figueroa on percussion, recorded the balance of the album. Who is the twelfth studio album by the English rock band the Who, released on 6 December 2019. In January 2019, The Who confirmed that they were working on their first album of new material in 13 years since their 2006 studio album Endless Wire, due to contain dark ballads, heavy rock stuff, experimental electronica, sampled stuff and Who-ish tunes that began with a guitar that goes yanga-dang, as Townshend stated. As with previous Who albums, vocalist Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend. Who is actually a fairly fun album about not particularly light subject matter - like whether the soul survives the body, or, more urgently, whether love and integrity survive feeling washed up. If a Dylan or Leonard Cohen approaches these topics, the mood is somber, but the Who have attempted something trickier, with a set of mostly hard-rocking songs that make them sound not a day over 30, addressing lyrical concerns that arent a day under 60. Its a chemistry experiment in which intimations of mortality and a half-rueful, half-eff-you attitude have been put into a Bunsen burner with Pete. Who albums have always been wayward affairs, where rocky anthems were counterbalanced with odd explorations and diversions, and WHO is no exception. There are some strange yet delightful ballads about love both spiritual gloriously bonkers Townshend-sung folk jazz diversion Ill Be Back and carnal the poppy Break The News and tender tango She Rocked My World. Beads On One String, a lush humanist peace song, boasts an absolutely gorgeous melody, with Daltreys bruised vocals adding an element of threat to hippy sentiments about one universal God: I dont care how you name. From: 'Who Are You' 1978. The original band's final album together is spotty, but the super-heavy title track and lead single features one of their all-time greatest group performances. Who Are You' drives hard, and the band's falling back into place after the lengthy instrumental break comes off like one last shot of release. And like nearly every other cut on our list of the Top 10 Who Songs, it's an anthem for various shades of teenage disillusionment. Here it takes the form of a teenage wasteland, a desperate, desolate place where the only salvation comes via rock and roll. The Who deliver.
